Nike SB has taken it back to 1973 with this collaboration with arguably the most successful live band ever. Their album “History of the Grateful Dead Volume One (Bear’s Choice)”. This album back cover featured marching not dancing bears drawn by Bob Thomas collaborating with Owsley “Bear” Stanley who the art was referenced to, Stanley had produced and recorded this influential album he also helped develop the bands ‘wall of sound’.

Taking all of this history and legacy forming it into a Dunk has been a success. Like the band, these shoes really make a statement. Coming in THREE different colour-ways orange, green and yellow! SB has put it all into creating this collection. The orange was exclusively available at FTC San Francisco. The green is a skate shop exclusive and the yellow is a skate shop and Nike exclusive.
On the circular tongue label, there is the iconic bear marching with Nikes Classic Swoosh, behind the tongue – the official Grateful Dead Production logo as a seal authenticity. All 5 colours of bear feature on the insole (orange, green, yellow, blue and purple). If you remove the insole on the inside heel (zoom air pod) it features the ‘steal your face’ logo. On the heel the font in which ‘Nike’ is displayed matches Grateful Dead’s feel displayed throughout the Dunk.
Moving onto the Swoosh its rugged edge is mimicking the tufts of fur seen on the bear’s chest with the bold outline to really accentuate its purpose. The main material of the shoe is suede but the fur theme carries on all over the dunk on the toe, mid panels and round the ankle – all faux fur.
The tongue has the classic SB Dunk big feel but this also features a deep pocket that reaches the end of the tongue with a zip. The green pair comes with a dark blue extra lace and the yellow comes with a light blue extra lace and in QS Box.
